Dia de Los Muertos Celebration- What's it all about?

Dia de Los Muertos is a tradition that has been celebrated in Mexico and many other Latin-american countries. For Dia de Los Muertos or Day of the Dead we take the time to celebrate and remember loved ones that have passed away. We do this by putting up alters decorated with flowers, pictures, candles, pan dulce, and papel picado among many other things.

All of our students come from different backgrounds. I want them to learn about traditions and customs that have taken place to honor and celebrate our ancestors. I encourage them to think about how different this celebration would be without art. How different would it look? How different would it feel?

Take some time to remember a loved one that has passed. Can you remember something important they did? Can you remember how special they made you feel? Is there something they wanted you to carry on?

Dia de Los Muertos es una tradición que comenzo en México y en muchos otros países latinoamericanos. Para Dia de Los Muertos nos tomamos el tiempo para celebrar y recordar a nuestros seres queridos que han fallecido. Hacemos esto poniendo alters decorados con flores, cuadros, velas, pan dulce y papel picado entre muchas otras cosas.

Todos nuestros estudiantes provienen de diferentes orígenes. Quiero que aprendan sobre las tradiciones y costumbres que se han llevado a cabo para honrar y celebrar a nuestros antepasados.

Los animo a pensar acerca de cuán diferente sería esta celebración sin arte. ¿Qué tan diferente se vería? ¿Qué tan diferente se sentiría?

Tómese su tiempo para recordar a un ser querido que ya ha fallecido. ¿Puedes recordar algo importante que hicieron? ¿Recuerdas lo especial que te hicieron sentir?
